A mini bus taxi and a Volkswagen Polo Vivo had a head on collision at the intersection of Voortrekker and OR Thambo Road.

On Sunday, July 29 at about 15:00 a head on collision between a minibus and a Polo Vivo occurred on the R555.

This road is well known for some of the most gruesome accidents in eMalahleni.

According to an eye witness that was at the KFC near the intersection when the accident happened, the white minibus skipped the red traffic light and he had a head on collision with the Polo Vivo.

“The minibus failed to stop and the next moment he smashed head on into the Polo,” explained the eye witness.

According to a bystander on scene there were six individuals in the minibus and four in the Polo.

“Four of the people in the minibus got injured,” explained the bystander.

“One of the ladies in the Polo was stuck and the fireman had to cut her out with the Jaws of Life,” he further explained.

All major emergency specialists were on the scene and attended to the injured passengers and drivers.
All the injured patients were taken to Emalahleni General Hospital.

“It is questionable when a driver fails to interpret that a red robot means stop. Motorists who disregard rules of the road need to change their attitude for the safety of every road user. Every driver and unlicensed people including a primary school learner knows that a red robot means stop. When a robot is not working, motorists should treat it as a four way stop,” concluded municipal spokesperson Kingdom Mabuza
