Mr Aaron Malinga* nearly lost his life for R2 300 and two cellphones as an unexpected night of horror played out before him.

Just after 22:00 on July 26, Malinga drove to drop his friend off at home.

The car had barely stopped when they were approached by three armed men.

One of the men tried to open Malinga’s car door to gain access to the vehicle, but failed. However, the men did not give up when faced with this obstacle.

One of the men shot through Malinga’s driver-side window, hitting him in the stomach.

The thugs then continued to shove Malinga into his own car’s trunk, injured and bleeding.

The robbers only released him once they had driven as far as Coronation, and only to search his person for valuables.
They took R2 300 from Malinga and his friend, as well as each of their cellphones.

The criminals also took Malinga’s bank cards and demanded he give them the pin so that they could withdraw more money from his account.
Malinga remained incredibly brave throughout the encounter, continuing to give these bandits the incorrect pin for his card in order to hinder them from stealing any more from him.

Upon realising that Malinga would not give them the correct pin for his bank card, the criminals abandoned him, his friend and his car at the railway ridge before escaping from the scene on foot.
