After the article in WITBANK NEWS about the state of the staff toilets in the magistrate’s court, nothing has been done.
The toilets still have no seats and on most of the toilets the cistern lids are missing.
When WITBANK NEWS visited on Friday, July 20, they were shown squeaky clean toilets, but the ‘bucket-system’ is still there and sanitizer was filled up so that the ladies can clean the toilet rim before they sit.
However the seats are missing and an extended period on the toilet can turn into a very uncomfortable experience. Ladies can end up with bruises and hovering above the toilet does not do the trick.

The court manager, Mr Thulani Mabena told the journalist she is getting emotional over something that is a nice-to-have.
The nice-to-have he referred to is a simple toilet seat.
Mabena took the journalist on a tour and proudly showed off the sanitizer and the bucket-system he introduced because there are regular water interruptions to the magistrate’s court building.
He said the Jo-Jo tanks have not been working the past two months and said he is working on the supply chain process to get the Jo-Jo tanks fixed.

On a previous occasion Mabena said he was not aware of problems in the toilets and still insists that the nice-to-have is on the to-do-list during the revamp that is currently happening at the building.
When asked to see the emails he allegedly sent to the Department of Public Works requesting assistance with the Jo-Jo tanks, he refused to show it.
WITBANK NEWS asked the Department of Justice and the Department of Public Works to look into the matter. By the time going to print no feedback was received.
