Official opening of KG Mall Road

The Nkangala District Municipality hosted the opening of the new road ceremony at the Sinqobile Community Hall.

The Nkangala District Municipality hosted the opening of the new road ceremony at the Sinqobile Community Hall.

The opening took place on Friday, July 20, when the new KG Mall Road was officially opened.

Speaking at the opening was Executive Mayor of Nkangala District Municipality, Cllr Thembi Masilela and her speech went as follows:

“Living Madiba’s legacy, towards a new dawn of improved quality of life for all.”

We all gathered here at Sinqobile to officially unveil the 1.3km road that was upgraded at the cost of R9,13 million.
Clearly the investment made in this community has created some job opportunities for the local people apart from providing a road infrastructure which has made a difference in the lives of the people who use this road.

Adjacent to this road, Nkangala District Municipality has also invested in another community facility, the Sinqobile Community Hall.

“I’m encouraged by the maintenance that is made to this hall. I hope and believe that it is also maximally used by the community, especially the youth of Sinqobile. This road may look like it is a small project that does not make a difference, however I think you will agree with me when I say it is the people who use it every day who really appreciate the difference it makes in their daily endeavours. Naturally it is when we take care of the small things that we shall be able as a nation to deal with the great things”.

Members of the community have a role to play when it comes to the infrastructure that is provided by government. For instance one can see how expensive is this very piece of road, it will last longer if we, the users do our part by not damaging our roads by burning tyres on the road surface and throwing huge boulders during protests.

Cutting of the ribbon to officially open the KG Mall Road on Friday, July 20.

The constitution allows us to protest peacefully without damaging our public assets and infrastructure.

Instead in the Spirit of Thuma Mina, we need to volunteer to look after our own public assets, guard them jealously against vandalism and destruction. Let us emulate our struggle heroes, such as Madiba and Umama Albertinah Sisulu, whose centenary celebrations of their births is commemorated by the nation this year, 2018.

They taught us to be selfless, tireless and fearless in the service of the people and the nation. We need to become responsible citizens who pay for the services provided by the people’s government.
