The life of a man was lost after a terrible accident occurred on the R544 on the way to Ga-Nala.
It is alleged that on Tuesday, July 10 at about 06:15 a phone call was received from an employee of DIG Earthmoving saying that they have been in a terrible accident close to their workplace.
“We then immediately went to the scene where we found the car and truck that was involved in the accident,” explained Herman Muller, Human Resource Manager at DIG Earthmoving.
“When I arrived on the scene, I noticed that two of our employees were still in the car and the other two were laying outside of the car,” explained Muller.

One of the employees has been discharged from the hospital with no serious injuries while two others are in ICU.
“Unfortunately the driver of the car was declared dead on scene.”
Mr Muller briefly explained what happened:
“According to eye witnesses a truck was coming from the direction of Ga-Nala towards eMalahleni when one of his front tyres burst, this caused the truck to swerve across the barrier in the middle of the road into oncoming traffic. That was when he hit the Nissan Sentra in which the employees of our company were. Allegedly the truck then swerved back over the barrier into its lane and that was where it came to a halt.”
The cue of cars that had to wait as the road was closed.
“Our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and we hope that our other three employees have a speedy recovery,” concluded Muller.
