The past week it came to light that a few residents of eMalahleni were victims of armed robberies that occurred while they were walking to their next destination.

In one incident John Muchecheterwa was hiking next to the N4 highway heading to Bronkhorstspruit on June 29. Three suspects stopped next to him and pulled out firearms, demanding his belongings.

“After they took everything I owned, they took off, leaving me behind,” said Muchecheterwa.

On June 26 another incident occurred while the victim was walking next to a field. Two men approached him, asking for a cigarette.

“When I gave them each a cigarette, the one suspect pulled out a knife asking me for my cell phone and my wallet. They grabbed it and ran away,” said the victim.

All these incidents took place next to the open road but no suspects were arrested.
