On Friday, June 22, a frantic call came into the SACCW Open Channel on Zello from a concerned member of the public stating that she heard her dogs barking and on inspection spotted 4 to 5 men on the roof of a company in Watermeyer Street.

Responders from the SACCW set out to the address where the men were spotted.

On arrival, responder JP Moore and Frik van Dyk at first could not find any suspects. Frik continued to search and climbed on the roof of the property which triggered the suspects to flee and jump off the roof into the company “SPY Imports and Hire’s” yard, where two of the suspects where already hiding.

A chase ensued and two of the five suspects where apprehended. Witbank SAPS was dispatched to the scene. A case of trespassing was opened against them.

SACCW Witbank Operations Co-ordinator Maureen Scheepers stated that it is important for the community to use the platforms available to alert on suspicious behaviour.

“This crime was prevented because a community member took note of her surroundings and alerted us. Thank you to the Witbank community for participating in this movement. Thank you to our ever willing responders who offer up so much for our city” said Maureen Scheepers.
