Two suspects appeared briefly in Witbank Magistrates Court last week for the possession of rhino horn.

The suspects, aged between 27 and 37 years old, appeared in court B on Thursday, June 14.

They have been charged for the unlawful possession of rhino horn and it’s a schedule five offence.

When the suspects were interviewed, they denied that the horns were theirs and they had to deliver it in Boksburg.

Both the suspects appeared in court on Thursday, June 21, for a bail application.


Rhino horns that were confiscated on Tuesday, June 12.

It’s alleged that the white BMW that was used to transport the horns was a rented vehicle.

In January 2018, Minister Edna Molewa from the South African Department of Environmental Affairs released the 2017 poaching numbers from across South Africa: 1,028 rhinos were poached in 2017, a slight decline (26) from the 1,054 animals killed in 2016.

Now that these horns were found it makes one wonder how many rhino’s have been poached for 2018.
