Stakeholder update on Eskom power system constraints

On a sad note, we have just received an alert from our system operator for a high probability of stage 2 load shedding between 17:00 and 22:00 today, 16 June 2018

Dear Stakeholder, we wish to thank you for your support and understanding of our situation as we implemented load shedding in the past few days due to unforeseen circumstances. We also wish to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

On a sad note, we have just received an alert from our system operator for a high probability of stage 2 load shedding between 17:00 and 22:00 today, 16 June 2018.

We are doing everything we could to correct this situation.
On this note, we can confirm that an agreement was reached between Eskom and its recognised trade unions to resume wage negotiations as from Tuesday, 19 June 2018. Subsequently the trade unions confirmed that all protest action will stop. Eskom has not observed any protest action today.

However, the Power system remains severely constrained and will continue to do so for at least the next 10 days. This is as a result of us implementing a recovery plan which includes performing detailed plant checks and maintenance on units that remained on load and the units that came off load as a result of operational constraints. We anticipate that our teams will be able to bring these units on load during this period to ensure stability of the system. While we endeavour to stabilise the power system as quickly as possible, the safety of our people and plant or equipment remain a top priority. .

We would also like to encourage you to continue using electricity sparingly as we embark on the recovery process.

In the event that load shedding becomes necessary, Eskom and the municipalities will use published load shedding schedules. For Eskom customers, these schedules are available on the Eskom website (loadshedding.eskom.co.za). Eskom customers can also contact our customer contact centre at 0860 037 566. Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all media platforms.

We will also personally keep you informed as soon as we become aware of any significant changes on our power system.

Once again thank you for your cooperation, understanding and continued support.
