According to Locklatch.com it is a good idea to have small dogs in the house as they might raise the alarm. Razor wires and electric fences are also very important. It will be a good idea to have alarm and security sensors especially in the garage as that is often the main point of entry. You need strong doors and good locks. It is also clever to invest in burglar bars. They also suggest that you should rather have layers of security systems than one single system. Always make sure that you have an open view into your garden and remember to close blinds and curtains at night. Information obtained from Locklatch.com
