Be alert, robbers with firearms on the loose

He isn’t far wrong, armed robberies are indeed taking place more often in our town. These robberies leave the residents of eMalahleni drowned in fear.

“The days where you can stroll freely in the streets are long gone,” said the man.

It is alleged that on Monday, May 7, a man was walking in Walter Sisulu Street, when out of nowhere two unknown males approached him. Allegedly one of the suspects pulled out a gun and pointed it towards the man.

“I feared for my life.”

The suspects allegedly demanded to have his backpack which contained a HP Laptop and a wallet. The suspects took his belongings and disappeared as quickly as they’ve arrived.

Road users should also be aware of their surroundings when they decide to pull over. It is alleged that on Thursday, 10 May, a man was travelling from Johannesburg back to eMalahleni. It is believed that there were 10 women along with him. One of the females in the vehicle told the man that there was something loose at the back of the vehicle and they should pull over.

While the man was allegedly checking the vehicle, he was approached by two unknown males. It is believed that they pointed a firearm at him and forced him to lie down.

They searched the man for any belongings that would be of worth to them. After they allegedly took his property, they went to the woman and took their handbags as well. No arrests have yet been made and the man could not be reached before time of print.

Later on the day of May 10, a man was robbed at gun point while walking back to his car in eMalahleni CBD. The suspects held him and allegedly took his money and cell phone.

It is believed that they fled the scene right after. Police are still investigating the case.
