KwaGuqa Satellite Police Station is up and running again.

The police station was reopened on Tuesday, April 24 after it was vandalised during a community protest a few months ago.

Vosman Police Station commander Brigadier Delisiwe Motha in her address thanked the management of the police political leaders, community members, sponsors for all their effort to make the reopening a success.

One of the sponsors Mr Donald Masinga said while he usual used to pass the vandalised station he used to worry a lot because he is from the area. He then thought about the suffering of the people and he came with a plan. He approached some people who came on board to help to renovate the station.

“We came together as partners with a same vision, to help our people. Holding hands together we can do it. We thanked the police for giving us a chance to help where we can. Hopefully we can do more in the future,” Masinga said.

Vosman Policing Forum (CPF) chairman Mr David Makgetloa in his massage of support voiced out his concern about protest taking place all over the country and said it was difficult to be a police officer in South Africa. He urged councillors to relate messages of community building to members of the community and that destroying things does not help.

Cluster commander General William Kekena said as police their job was to protect, preventing crime and to investigate crime and they have little resources and few police officers to do that. He further said community members must access police stations without any problems. That police must react within 20 minutes but at time that became difficult to do with the mentioned reasons.

“We are committed to bring service near to our community and deliver quality service to the area and also to work with our communities. We are to join forces with CPF members and private sector to fight crime. We want to live in an area free of crime and drugs. People should stop vandalising building because they are important. People need to change their mindset and work hand in hand with the police; we need each other to fight crime. This satellite police station is a public asset it belongs to you as a community please take good care of it.”
General Kekena further thanked the sponsors for coming on board to help rebuild the satellite station.
