One shot, one injured, another lost R35 000

Lately residents are becoming targets when big amounts are withdrawn from banks.

Since the articles published in WITBANK NEWS on Friday, April 27 two more residents became targets of criminals after they withdrew large amounts of money from banks.

On Monday, April 30 the sound of a gunshot echoed through the air at Clearwater Estate.

This is where a foreigner Mr Pien Pui-da lost his life after withdrawing R40 000 at Standard Bank, Saveways Crescent.

“Pui-da and a friend was driving in a white Mazda 323 and on their way back to their residential premise at Clearwater Estate, a Golf 7 was following them. As they approached the gate, two of four armed men got out of their vehicle,” said Sgt Ratau.

He added that when the security guards of the complex realised what was happening, they ran away.

“By this time a quarrel started between Pui-da and the suspects, and the shots were fired. Pui-da was shot in his chest whereafter the bullet went into the passengers leg,” Sgt Ratau added. “The passenger of the vehicle was taken to hospital.”

It is alleged that the suspects fled in the direction of the R555, but it has not yet been determined in which way the vehicle went.

Another victim lost R35 000 after withdrawing from Nedbank in Highveld Mall on Saturday, April 28.

A shockwave ran through Ms Sylvia Mokoena when her phone rang, and a stranger told her that her husband and brother-in-law were robbed of R35 000.

Ms Mokoena stated on Tuesday, May 1 that her husband, brother-in-law and her child of 4-years old went to a bank in Klipfontein to withdraw money.

Here they could not be assisted with the withdrawal so they went to the other branch in Highveld Mall.
