Motorists urged to install additional security features in their vehicles

On Saturday morning, April 21 a red Mazda 323, 1989 model was stolen at Klipfontein.

Motorists are advised to try installing additional security features in their vehicles.

This comes after two vehicles were stolen this past weekend.

A month ago the WITBANK NEWS wrote about the alarming increasing number of old model vehicles being stolen ever since the year started.

On Saturday morning, April 21 a red Mazda 323, 1989 model was stolen at Klipfontein.

The registration number is BYT 026 MP.

The complainant said the car had not been found yet and the search is still on-going.

On Friday, April 20 a red Mitsubishi Colt, double cap with canopy was stolen at Hofmeyer Street.

The vehicle’s registration number is JDD 792 MP.

Owners of older model vehicles are urged to take note of this trend and try to install additional security features.

These security features could make a difference in preventing the vehicle from being stolen or when stolen, having a greater chance of recovery.

Witbank police spokesperson Capt Eddie Hall said the police station is experiencing an increase in the theft of old model vehicles.

Here are preventative measures that can be implemented to prevent vehicle owners being victims of theft of motor vehicles.

Avoid parking your motor vehicle where there are no security officers guarding other cars; Make sure that all the doors and windows are properly locked when you park your car; Valuable items should be put in the boot of your car; Try to fit an alarm or anti-theft device in your car; Parking lots with a parking attendant is best, otherwise try to park in locations that are well lit and well populated and not crowded by bushes or buildings where offenders might hide.
