A recent event that happened was the adoption / sit-in day that took place on Saturday, April 21.

This event was intended for the general public to visit kennels and spend time, interact, play and give shelter animals some much needed love and attention.

Charlene Barnes (SPCA Vice Chairlady) provides a few tips and a reminder on how to take care of your pet:

o If your pet is lost or missing, fill out a lost report with our staff at the office. Many pets are collected as strays, and we can refer back to prior records if we have the details on file. However, it remains the responsibility of the owner to keep coming to check whether your pet has been brought in to the SPCA. Many pet owners forget to look for their pet at the SPCA. It is also advisable for your pets to have a collar and ID tag or be micro chipped. Should you pick up a pet please remember that you do not have the legal right to re-home the animal.

o It is essential to have your pets sterilized and vaccinated. Be responsible and prevent unwanted litters. There are not enough homes for all the puppies and kittens and many are euthanized. Sterilization lasts 20 minutes and the suffering of an abandoned animal lasts a lifetime. Speak to your Vet for further information.

The SPCA is in constant need of people that can lend a helping hand, here are four ways on how you can support them:
o Sponsor a kennel for R120 per month; send an email to the office for details and to request an application form.
o Donate food especially for puppies, blankets, toys or cat litter.
o Sponsor sterilization for someone in need. Contact the office for more information.
o Report cruelties.
