“I heard a woman screaming and we wanted to go see what was going on, if the person was in danger or not. When we got there we saw that she indeed was in danger and we assisted her. At that moment I was not scared, I was not thinking ‘What if my life is in danger too’. I was fearless, for what reason, I do not know. I did this because I have a sister and when she is in danger or in a similar situation, I would love for a Good Samaritan to assist her. After assisting the woman we felt good and were very delighted to have saved a life. There wasn’t a feeling on earth greater than that. We felt like heroes.”

Mr Frik van Dyk awarded the three men with cokes, to thank them for their effort and for what they have done to assist in saving the day. Other SACCW response members assisted on scene, after the call came through on the open channel.

The victim was not available for comment at the time of going to print and she allegedly had two children with her, one in a pram and a toddler. They were taken to safety while Langamed Emergency Management attended to the victim. She sustained a stab wound to the chest and in her face, which was treated on scene before she was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Maureen Scheepers from SACCW said that anyone walking should be vigilant of their surroundings.

“They must always be on the lookout for what is going on around them,” she said.
