The on going case of justice for #Mthunzi

On Tuesday April 3, Els appeared in the Witbank Magistrate Court on the charge of attempted murder, amongst his other pending charges.

The assault that occurred at a well known restaurant left Mthunzi Sibuyi (21) critical in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

On January 6 three cases were opened against Jacobus Els after he, along with other suspects allegedly assaulted a group of youngsters attending a 21st birthday party at a local restaurant.

Mthunzi Sibuyi known as Smiley sustained serious brain injuries after he was attacked and it was alleged that the attack was racially motivated.

On Tuesday April 3, Els appeared in the Witbank Magistrate Court on the charge of attempted murder, amongst his other pending charges.
The case was transferred to Regional Court and postponed to May 8.


Mthunzi Sibuyi (21) got beaten into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on January 6 at a local restaurant in eMalahleni.

Mr Sibuyi was visibly absent at the hearing. The family stated that Sibuyi had to attend to sub-exams at the University he is attending due to his short term memory that has been affected by the attack.

“Smiley, who has always been an above average student, is struggling with the after effects caused by the assault,” Sibuyi’s father, Mr Mandla Kenny concluded sadly.
