On the other hand, MEC Ngomane has applauded the community of Emalahleni for assisting the police with information that led to the arrest of the suspect. The MEC has also commended SAPS for the arrest of the suspect on the allegations of kidnapping two children. Ngomane says that the police have done an excellent job by arresting this man due to what he is allegedly to have committed in society.

It was reported that two children, Gabisile Shabani (13) and the 15 months old child Nkosikhona Ngwenya were abducted by three armed men. The men allegedly entered the house through a window and took the children. One of the children was living with albinism. The police cannot confirm at this stage whether the bodies are for the kidnapped children, pending the DNA tests and post-mortem.

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Mr Pat Ngomane addressing the Shabani family at Hlanikahle on Saturday, February 24.

Ngomane says people who live with albinism are like any other human beings and should be treated with dignity and respect. He says it becomes very painful when for whatever reason they become targeted by some unscrupulous human beings.

It is against this reason that MEC Ngomane says communities should form a protective front against harassment, intimidation or discrimination against persons who live with albinism.

“We must report any person or groupings that violate their rights,” he said.

Since the incident occurred the police and the community have been hard at work searching for the two and also following on every possible lead that may assist in securing the children.

MEC Ngomane is still deeply shocked by the incident and he has further appealed to the community to continue working with the police in order to eradicate crime and arrest all criminals who violate community members.

The MEC further called on the Criminal Justice Cluster to ensure that such evil doers are convicted to demonstrate government and the society’s intolerance towards violation of the rights of children.
