An innocent bystander was shot in front of her children after a shootout occurred in Opperman Street.

On Tuesday, February 13 a liquor store in Klipfontein was robbed and as the robbers fled the scene, tow truck driver, Mr Bruce Kirton chased after the armed villains.

“I was walking with my children and suddenly heard a loud noise of a bakkie chasing at high speed and then I heard gunshots not knowing I will be shot,” said the bystander, Ms Edith Butau.

She was shot in the right leg during the chase and luckily none of her children were hurt.

“I can’t actually remember the whole incident; it happened so fast I just know I heard six or more gunshots and one of them hit me in the leg,” Butau added.

Legacy Ambulance Services rushed to the scene and gave Butau the needed medical help.

A resident that lives nearby also said he first heard the ‘bakkie’ and when he went outside he saw it was a white tow truck chasing another white vehicle.

“It was only then when I saw a man hanging out of the back window in the white car busy opening fire in the tow truck’s direction,” the resident said.
