Woman robbed of R30 000 in the CBD

Robbery with a firearm cases are on the rise. It seems more and more people fall victim to this crime on a daily basis. Last week three cases were opened at the Witbank Police Station.

The most recent one happened on Thursday, January 25 when a woman was robbed of R30 000 that she withdrew at a bank. After withdrawing the money she went back to the car and drove with her husband to a filling station situated in the Central Business District.

When her husband went into the garage’s quick shop, two men came and threatened her with a firearm instructing her to give them the money she withdrew.

At that time the husband came back from the shop and he was assaulted by the suspects. The one suspect that was armed went back to the car and took a brown handbag, purse and money.

On the same day at 18:00 a woman aged 45 was robbed of R3 000, a cell phone and bank cards. After withdrawing the money she went to a fast food shop to order food.

While sitting, a man she saw earlier at the ATM asked if there was anyone that was occupying the next seat and she said no. Moments later a man who was wearing a DH t-shirt joined them.

The two suspects started speaking to each other. One of them then threatened the woman with a firearm and requested her belongings.

Another incident happened earlier in the week on Tuesday afternoon, January 23 when a man left his vehicle and was on his way to a shop when he met an armed man who robbed him of his cell phone and money
