Kusile treats 100 disadvantaged children in each municipality under Nkangala to a Christmas party

What better way than to give back in the season of giving and spread the Christmas cheer and close the events calendar for the year on a high note.

Kusile Power Station Project partnering with the Nkangala District Municipality set off to Emakhazeni Municipality and Steve Tshwete Municipality to host a beautiful Christmas party for 100 disadvantaged children in each municipality. A total of 600 orphaned children around Nkangala benefitted from this initiative.

What better way than to give back in the season of giving and spread the Christmas cheer and close the events calendar for the year on a high note. The fun filled day happened on Thursday, December 21.

Kusile Power Station Project gave back to 100 disadvantaged children in each municipality under the Nkangala District.

“For some of the children that had gathered, this was the only celebration they will have for the year. To see their faces light up was most heart-warming. Because to them this was more than just a Christmas party, it was renewed hope. Eskom is pleased to have been given this opportunity to make a difference where it matters the most. The future of this country rests in the hands of the children we see today, it is not only the responsibility of organisations to take care of the destitute but it is the responsibility of every individual within the communities to extend a helping hand to their neighbour who is in need,” said Ayanda Madigage, Kusile Power Station Project Communications Department.

In her opening remarks Executive Mayor of Nkangala District Municipality, Cllr Linah Malatji said this was such a beautiful day for Nkangala.

Cllr Linah Malatji (Executive Mayor of Nkangala District Municipality), Mr John Skosana (External Stability Manager at Kusile Power Station Project), Mmamoloko Kubayi (Minister of Communications) and Cllr Thulare Madileng (Executive Mayor for the DR JS Moroka Municipality). Kusile Power Station Project hosted a Christmas party for 100 disadvantaged children in each municipality under the Nkangala District Municipality.

“We have been blessed to have companies such as Eskom that still hear us out when we make last minute requests. Today all thanks to Eskom, all the children gathered here will not have a black Christmas and walk away empty handed; every child will be awarded with food and clothing vouchers that will ensure a more merry Christmas,” said Cllr Malatji.

She further encouraged the children going to Grade 12 to work hard at school and ensure that they obtain good grades so that they qualify for government funding for higher education.

Eskom representative, Mr John Skosana (External Stability Manager at Kusile Power Station Project) addressed the audience stating that Eskom, Kusile Power Station Project is committed to the upliftment of sustainable growth within communities that have a background of disadvantage. It is for this reason that Eskom Kusile Power Station Project will continue to extend a hand of hope to their neighbouring communities.

The Nkangala District Municipality together with Eskom carried on sprinkling more of the Christmas spirit on Friday, December 22 in Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality and Thembisile Hani Local Municipality. Festivities ended on Saturday, December 23 at Victor Khanye Municipality.
