A case of assault turned into a case of attempted murder after Mthunzi Sibuyi (21) got beaten into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The incident that occurred in the late hours of Saturday night, January 6 turned viral after a racial tiff happened at a local restaurant.
“We all gathered at the restaurant for one of our friends’s 21st but never thought in my wildest dreams that it could end up so severe,” said Alysha-Jaide Buys a victim of the incident.
The happenings of that cruel night are still a black hole for Sibuyi as he cannot remember anything of the incident that almost took his life.
“He is speaking now and we can be thankful for that but he cannot remember anything of that night,” Mthunzi’s father, Mr Mandla Kenny added.
The restaurant where the incident took place gave WITBANK NEWS approval to go and watch the video footage to get more clarity on what happened.
On the video footage a group of youngster can be seen socializing at a table inside the restaurant and the suspect and his sons were opposite them.
In less than five minutes the laughter turned into hysterical screams as the suspect followed the victim to the door and beat him for no apparent reason.
Andrew Turner that was working as a DJ the night of the incident said, “During the night I went outside for a smoke and the old man and his family arrived drunk and entered the restaurant. As the night went on I saw an incident where the suspect grabbed one of the female waiters improperly and from there they where causing trouble with people.”
