Puppy trapped while sun scorches down

There was no shelter, food or water in sight.

A shocking video of a puppy trapped in a shopping trolley had viewers on social media hot under the collar the past weekend.

Neighbours in Tennyson Street checked on the puppy that had been crying non-stop and were horrified by what they found.

As the mercury touched over 30 degrees Celsius over the weekend the puppy stumbled up and down in the shopping trolley in the blazing sun.

There was no shelter, food or water in sight.

The SPCA was eventually reached.

“I immediately went to the property. However the gate was locked. Because of the high walls with palisades I could not see the puppy, but I eventually got hold of the owner of the house and gave them a good scolding. The owner said he kept the dog in the trolley because it poohs everywhere and slips through underneath the gate. I told him to get mesh wire and cover the gap underneath the gate,” Nicolous Mahlangu, SPCA inspector said.

Mashango said he received reports last night that the dog was again back in the trolley.

“I will not tolerate such behaviour. I will go and give them a written warning today.”

In another incident Ms Sandra Rossouw made a gruesome discovery when she noticed a garbage bag that looked out of place in Pioneer Street.

Inside she found a dead dog.

“I do not understand how sick a person can be. To throw your dog-baby in a garbage bag and dump him next to the road is inhumane,” she said.

She picked the dog up and buried it.
