Christmas message from the Mayor

It is that time of the year when families and friends gather and celebrate the December festivities including Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Executive Mayor Cllr. L.L. Ntshalintshali writes:

It is that time of the year when families and friends gather and celebrate the December festivities including Christmas and New Year’s Day. Sadly, it is also during this period when, some among us, act recklessly on our roads, homes and within our communities.

The carnage on our roads tend to increase during this period because most people travel on the municipal and national roads to various destinations. Most deaths are as a result of reckless driving and sheer negligence. We appeal to motorists to drive safely and be considerate at all times. Young people, in particular, should be alert at all times and should not excessively indulge in whatever they consume. We cannot afford to lose young people due to careless behaviour. Young people are our future.

We cannot pretend that during this period everyone will have enough to feed and clothe their families. We would like to make a special appeal to neighbours, businesses and churches to share or donate food parcels and clothes to struggling families. After all, this is a season for giving and sharing. We all have the responsibility to make sure that during this period, we protect the vulnerable groups of women, children and our elders at all times.

All of us have duty and responsibility to report acts of abuse and crime to the police. When you keep quite you are an accomplice to that abuse and crime. We, as the Municipality will continue to deliver services and we hope that before you spend all your hard-earned money you will prioritize settling your Municipal rates and taxes account. Equally we expect religious, traditional, youth, community and political leaders to ensure that there is peace among communities. And that we all come back intact to work together for the good of eMalahleni.

In 2018 we will continue to work closely with all stakeholders including
political parties to improve service delivery to all our people.
