Man appears in court for planning to stage a CIT heist

A suspect has been locked behind bars after police followed information about a man who is one of the Cash-In-Transit (CIT) high flyers.

A suspect has been locked behind bars after police followed information about a man who is one of the Cash-In-Transit (CIT) high flyers.

The arrest itself is not for committing the crime but of the planning to stage a CIT heist within the Emalahleni area.

In the early hours of Friday, October 27 members of the South African Police Service Mpumalanga Tracking Team received information about the crime. When police arrived at Extension 3, Klarinet, the men in blue discovered two vehicles. A silver grey Volkswagen Polo TSI and a black Volkswagen.

The vehicles fitted the description of the cars that were hijacked in the Gauteng Province. Furthermore it is alleged that the two vehicles were going to be used as gateway cars after the heist would have been carried out.

As the officials on duty where searching the house a schedule of CIT routes were found.
The man, aged 35, who is believed to be the owner of the house was arrested.

He made his first appearance at the Witbank Magistrate Court on Monday, October 30.

The accused is facing an array of charges which include car hijacking and possession of stolen motor vehicles.
The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma was elated at these developments and urged the men and women in blue to soldier on, in order to create a safe and secure environment for the inhabitants of the province.

Police are continuing with their investigations, making sure they leave no stone un-turned.
