After numerous complaints have been brought forward regarding the condition of lampposts in eMalahleni, the municipality has decided to do something about it.
On Monday morning, October 16, Mr Johan Duvenage noticed that the lampposts near his business were damaged.
One of the lamps on top of the lamppost has tilted and become exposed.
“The lights along Eugene Marais and Van Heerden Street are damaged, there is no light in the evenings and this is a security risk,” he said.
He added that they are also a danger to people in the streets as there are open panels with exposed live wires, to top that off the heads of the lamps are broken making the lamps susceptible to weather damage which would in effect add more to the costs of repairing these lampposts.
The panel covering the electrical wiring has been removed from another lamppost.
The matter was taken up with the Emalahleni Municipality.
“There is a maintenance plan which will be tabled before council next week, we are aware of many frustrations about street lights and we are positive that we will deal with the frustrations once we start putting the plan in action,” said Mr Kingdom Mabuza, Emalahleni Municipality communications liaison.
