Last week WITBANK NEWS reported eight car-hijacking cases and there are more this week.

It seems there is no rest for the wicked. Mr David Mokwena was being a good Samaritan when he offered a lift to two men who in turn hijacked his vehicle. The 51-year-old was driving a white Ford Bantam bakkie.

The white Ford Bantam bakkie was hijacked on Thursday, September 28.

The incident happened on Thursday, September 28 around 21:00 at Masakhane when Mokwena was on his way home.
The complainant gave two suspects a lift. One suspect was seated with him in front and the other suspect went to the back of the bakkie. After a few kilometres, one of the suspects asked the driver to stop. The suspect who was seated at the back of the bakkie came to the driver’s window and threatened Mokwena telling him to get out of the car.

“The suspects seemed young but because I was afraid I did as I was told,” said Mokwena as he remembered the terrible ordeal.

Soon after that, the suspects drove off.

Mokwena cannot remember the suspect’s faces, as the hijacking happened very fast.

On his way going home, Mr David Mokwena gave two suspects a lift. He was hijacked by the hikers at Masakhane on Thursday, September 28.

“I need my car back. I use it for my personal use,” mentioned Mokwena.

After the hijacking happened, Mokwena’s colleague spotted the vehicle on Friday (September 29) at Empumelelweni. The colleague further alleged that he heard rumours that the vehicle was being sold for R9 000 at Masakhane.

The registration number of the vehicle is MNH 137 GP, should you spot the car please contact the nearest police station.

Witbank Police spokesperson Capt Eddie Hall sent a strong message last week to the public especially to drivers and pedestrians.

“Drivers must not pick up hikers and pedestrians should not hike on the roads. We have noticed that the people that pretend to be hikers are in most cases the robbers,” warned Capt Hall.

Another vehicle was hijacked at OR Tambo Road. About five armed suspects hijacked a brand new white Chevrolet Utility bakkie. The incident happened on Saturday, October 7 at 19:00.

Capt Hall provided safety awareness hints when driving your vehicle.
