As Heritage Month draws closer to the end, Emalahleni Housing Company (EHC) commemorated Heritage Day by hosting a modelling competition.
Mr and Miss Heritage 2017 took place at Highveld Mall on Saturday, September 23.
The theme and dress code for the day was traditional or spring wear and participants stuck to the theme.
Cultures such as Xitsonga, IsiZulu, IsiNdebele, Tshivenda and many others were beautifully represented. The contest had 105 entries.
The competition focused on children and the youth in the following categories: Girls 3-6 years, 7-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-15 years, 16-18 years and 19-25 years and boys 3-7 years, 8-12 years, 13-16 years and 17-25 years.
The 10 categories were judged by Zelda Small (Models One-on-One), Ayanda Masuku (Face of Emalahleni 2016) and Johan Swanepoel (EHC). The man in charge of the programme was Trevor Dube, EHC’s Development Officer.
Prizes were awarded to the first, second and third place winners in each age category.
The winners are: Girls (3-6 years) – Tshiamo Skhosana (winner), Lika Geyser (first princess) and Naledi Mokoena (second princess); Girls (7-9 years) – Sinethemba Maseko (winner), Phethizwe Shabangu (first princess) and Nikita Lebo Phohedi (second princess); Girls (10-12 years) – Owami Taderera (winner), Avela Simelane (first princess) and Nokukhanya Mahlangu (second princess); Girls (13-15 years) -Owenella Masilela (winner), Iya Mnguni (first princess) and Nhlanhla Priscilla Mabena (second princess); Girls (16-18 years) – Gladys Molemane (winner), Innocentia Sibongile Mahlangu (first princess) and Gina Silarela (second princess); Girls (19-25 years) – Masetshaba Ditsepu (winner), Loventia Nobuhle Mjiyakho (first princess) and Esmarelda van der Westhuizen (second princess); Boys (3-7 years) -Izwelakhe Shabangu (winner) and Karabo Rantho (first runner up); Boys (8-12 years) – Qiniso Blessing Ndzimandze (winner), Thandolwethu Mnguni (first runner up) and Ntuthuko Motsweni (second runner up); Boys (13-16 years) – Tumelelo Masemola (winner), Tebogo Ntuli (first runner up) and Emmanuel Linda (second runner up); Boys (17-25 years) – Siyabonga Kevin Nkosi (winner), Sfiso Mokoena (first runner up) and Michael Nkosi (second runner up).
The event was sponsored by Highveld Mall, Vodacom, Models One-on-One, Life Healthcare Cosmos Hospital, Adorations Hair Salon, Spur, Bargain Books, Dischem, Pick n Pay and Nino’s.
