Ms Fundifwa Ndaba told the tale of her and her 3-year-old against two armed men.
“I was on my way to the Eastern Cape and busy packing on Wednesday morning, 20 September. It was around 05:30 when my car and house doors were open, and the guys came in. I screamed and they asked me for money and my cell phone. They also asked if I have a laptop, which I don’t. I did not have any money with me and told them that.They pushed me and my child into the bedroom and I immediately locked the door when they closed it,” said Ndaba. “I pressed the panic button and screamed for the neighbours. One neighbour is a traffic cop and he came out, thereafter I heard two gunshots. I don’t know who fired them.”
She added that she and her child were threatened with the guns of the suspects before being pushed into the bedroom.
The neighbours were all there before the security company and Ndaba said she saw the suspects jumping over the back wall.
“I phoned the police and waited for them but I was in a hurry to get to the Eastern Cape and went to open the case at the station,” Ndaba added.
She said that she only realised her one bag with her purse was gone when she reached her destination.
It had her wedding ring inside.
The street lights in the area are not working and have not been for more than a month.
Ndaba said that she has reported it many times.
“It is very dark at night and early in the morning. I have sent the municipality inbox messages and said that there are a number of house robberies and now it happened to me. They fix the other streets, but not ours,” she said, “This is just not safe.”
Ndaba is receiving counselling after the experience.
