Phola women marching to voice their concerns

Different Phola organisations came together with one in thing in their mind, that is to raise their concern about gender based violence.

The march was led by Ms Zanele Msibi from the Southern Africa Green Revolutionary Council (SAGRC) (Witbank branch), Ms Yvonne Sampear chairperson of Greater Phola Ogies Women’s Forum (GPOWF) and Ms Millicent Shungube treasure of GPOWF and it was held on Wednesday, September 6.

Their organisations were the Southern Africa Green Revolutionary Council (SAGRC) (Witbank branch), Greater Phola Ogies Women’s Forum (GPOWF). The march was held on Wednesday, September 6.

The women marched through the streets of Phola raising awareness about gender based violence and they later held a meeting at the Thusong Multipurpose Centre in Phola where GPOWF also have offices. They agreed that enough is enough.

“We have had injustices in some of the cases affecting women and children. The purpose of the march is to bring hope to the victims of gender based violence affecting women and children. We want to make awareness within our communities and the theme of the march was ‘Wearing of blue ribbons’, which symbolises hope.”

Different issues affecting children and women were raised. Women were urged to tell their stories and some gave terrifying accounts about their lives. The organisations promised that they would talk with the relevant organisations to help women faced with the problems of gender based violence.
