In memory of Glenda and Willy

We are tired of crime!

Emalahleni is crying. On Sunday, August 20 close to 300 people gathered in front of Willy and Glenda Allison’s house in Browning Street and left flowers at their gate.

The house that was once known for being full of fun and joviality now lays in sombre silence.

The sad reality is that the couple who stayed there were murdered a week ago.

Willy and Glenda were shot dead for two cell phones and a laptop during an armed robbery.

Their maid, Ms Linah Maloka choked on her tears as she quietly stood and watched the community pray as they laid the flowers.

“I don’t know how this past week unfolded. It has been a rush and I have not yet come to terms with the fact that Glenda and Willy is dead,” she said.

Maloka locked herself in her room when she heard shots been fired.

She said Willy always told her should anything happen at the house she must lock herself in her room until it is safe to come out.

When she eventually heard no more sounds she went outside and found Glenda at the front door. All indications are that Glenda was trying to escape when she was shot from behind. Willy was in the study when the armed robbery took place. His body was found there.

Police spokesperson, Capt Eddie Hall said the robbers cut a razor fence in the front of the yard and broke a glass door to gain entry to the house.

The robbers left a television set and pool cue outside the yard in their haste to get away. Only two cell phones and a laptop are missing.

“We are tired of crime,” said Mr David Wessels from the South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW).

He urged the community to step it up and get involved with the available crime fighting initiatives.

The couple were buried on Thursday August 17.
