Crime committed by people in their 40’s

She claims that she is aware that her actions were wrong and pleaded guilty.

A 46-year old woman now faces charges of theft after stealing CD’s and DVD’s and this was not her first offence.
On Thursday, July 6 the woman faced the Magistrate at the Witbank Magistrates Court.

Nosihle Zikhali stole CD’s and DVD’s to the value of R2 063 at a shop in Highveld Mall. The accused says that the reason for her actions was because her grandchildren needed winter clothing and were sick. She claims that she is aware that her actions were wrong and pleaded guilty.

Magistrate Daleen Venter states that theft is a serious offense especially in eMalahleni and should not be taken lightly.

This was not Zikhali’s first time committing a theft crime; she stole various items in June 1999; March 2001 and in April 2002 and these cases were suspended for six years.

Some may say that they would do anything for their family, Solly Sikhakhane also agreed as he was facing charges of drunken driving. The 43-year-old states that he had drunk a few beers when his wife told him that he had to buy nappies for their baby.

The first offender said that he was stopped by the police in Matthew Phosa Street in 2016 where he had to use the breathalyser. He was taken to the police station with his BMW where his blood was drawn. The results were 0.28 and he said that he was not aware that he had exceeded the limit.

The prosecutor could not confiscate his drivers licence as he works as a driver for a particular company. The accused was therefore fined R3 000 which he said he was going to pay in installments.

He’s sentence was suspended for five years on the same offence. His sentence included unfit to possess a firearm. He acknowledges that his actions were unlawful and wrong.
