Taking it back to 2014; a Quick stop at a local tuck shop led to a case of robbery with aggravated circumstances and kidnapping.

On July 9, two years ago Mr. Sipho Kama stopped at a shop on the Zaaihoek Road (R544) along with his two friends. On their way into the shop a white Ford Focus stopped across the road and two unknown men climbed out of the vehicle.

“The suspects that were wearing soldiers uniforms came to us and suddenly each one of them pulled out a firearm,” the victim, Kama stated in court on June 15.

He went on, telling the magistrate that the suspects were very violent and pushed them all down to the floor, demanding a contact to buy dagga from.

As the court audience sat in silence, awaiting the trial to continue after almost two years, Kama went on, stating,

“The more I told the suspect I do not know where to buy dagga nor do I have a contact, they got angry and started robbing my friends of their belongings.”

After being robbed one of the victims was taken hostage by the robbers as they fled the scene with the same vehicle. They were soon after found and one of the suspects was arrested.

The suspect, Eddie Babana Msiza pleaded guilty on all charges against him in the Regional Court. He was sentenced to 45 years for three robbery charges and another 15 years for kidnapping.
