Mr Evans Sefoka recalls how his eyes burned after being pepper sprayed, just before robbers hijacked his car.
Sefoka was on his way to the Central Business District. He was driving his Volkswagen Golf when he stopped at the robot at the intersection of Walter Sisulu and Christiaan de Wet streets on May 7.
“When I reached the robot a white car overtook me and stopped in front of me,” said Sefoka.
He brought his car to a hasty stop.
In the dark of night, two men exited the car, one was armed with a shotgun, the other a handgun.
“The one with the handgun came to my door and ordered me to get out of the car, the moment I got out he pepper sprayed me,” said Sefoka.
He stood there rubbing at his eyes as the one who sprayed him got into his Golf and sped off in the direction of the CBD. Sefoka could barely make out the white car as the other hijacker got back into it and followed his accomplice.
In his statement to police Sefoka mentions that his wallet and various cards had been stolen.
Fortunately for Sefoka his car was fitted with a tracker and was traced to Middelburg where the vehicle was recovered by Middelburg Police.
“The car was damaged, the driver’s window was broken, but at least I have my car back,” he said.
