House burns down, with no sight of eMalahleni’s fire brigade

Kriel Fire Brigade came to the rescue

Residents of Pioneer Street and those living nearby, got an early wake-up call when a house caught fire.

This incident happened on Sunday, April 9.

A man living close by heard tapping sounds at his daughter’s car, he opened the window to see what could be the problem and he saw flames and smoke.

Immediately he went out and alerted his daughter to call Emalahleni Fire Department to come on scene.

The owner of the house is now living in Komatipoort.

He acknowledged that he did receive a phone call informing him about this ordeal but does not know the details of what transpired.

Mr Jurgens Potgieter who heads up Extension 16 Communiy Policing Forum (CPF) said that Lourens de Jager was patrolling the area in a security vehicle when he saw the flames.

He called Potgieter around 04:26 and he rushed to the house.

According to the municipal spokesperson Mr Kingdom Mabuza, it was found that during inspection, the property was left empty without attention for a long period. Homeless people occupied the garage of the house.

“There are suspicions that the fire was sparked by the homeless people who were allegedly burning tyres inside the garage,” said Mabuza.
