Family might get answers to son’s murder

Police followed the lead as to the whereabouts of a suspected drug dealer to his house in Kingfisher Street in Ga-Nala (Kriel).

A suspected drug dealer’s arrest may provide a family with the much needed answers as to their son’s death.

On Friday, March 31 a 33-year-old man was arrested in Ga-Nala during a joint operation by members of police from Secunda including the Organised Crime Unit, South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau, Crime Intelligence and K9 units.

Police followed the lead as to the whereabouts of a suspected drug dealer to his house in Kingfisher Street in Ga-Nala (Kriel).

Police arrived at the house and detained the man while searching the house they found a stash of narcotics including 62.5g of CAT, and two packets of dagga, along with two scales and fifty small packing bags. Police also found the suspect to be in possession of 16 cellular phones.

Sixteen cellular phones were found in the suspect’s possession.

The value of the narcotics and goods is estimated at R51 000.

The 33-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.

During their initial investigation the police discovered human hair and blood stains inside the vehicle of the suspected dealer.

The forensic evidence is suspected to be that of Mr André Nortje, the 21-year-old man whose disappearance from his home and suspected kidnapping on March 22 ended with his body being found on a farm near Emkopeni on March 27.

Dagga and CAT were confiscated by police.

The Local Criminal Record Centre is busy with investigations to determine if the blood stains and human hair found in the vehicle of the suspect does indeed belong to the late Nortje.

The suspect appeared in Kriel Magistrate Court on Monday April 3 on charges of dealing in drugs and possession of drugs. He was granted bail of R2 000 and will appear before the court on April 24 pending further investigation.

“If the forensic results return positive additional charges will be laid against the suspect,” said Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, Hawks spokesperson.
