Woman pleads guilty after R5-million goes missing

A 34-year old woman was found guilty of fraud amounting to R5-million last week.

Snyman was employed as a payroll administrator by Tedoc from August 2012 until May 2015. Her duties included making payments to various creditors including SARS, union subscriptions and in particular to Metal Industries Benefit Fund (MIBFA), she had access to the company’s two bank accounts, Standard Bank and the First National Bank account.

It’s alleged that Snyman transferred and deposited over R5-million into her personal bank account without authority as the money was not due to her.

She was arrested on June, 2 in 2015 when the Managing Director Mr Johannes Jiyane noticed what was happening within his business.


Ms Leandri Snyman pleads guilty to 23 counts of fraud or alternative theft and she will be sentenced on March 22.

Snyman plead guilty to all 23 counts of fraud.
Ms Greyvenstein asked if there were previous convictions of this nature and it came to light that in June 2010 she was found guilty of fraud in Delmas and was sentenced to five years imprisonment, suspended for five years.
A year later in 2011 Snyman was found guilty in Pretoria for fraud, she was sentenced to three years correctional services, seven years imprisonment which was suspended for five years.

Snyman will appear in the Regional Court on Wednesday, March 22 for sentencing.
A 46-years-old male Mr Erhard Taljaard, practicing attorney in Middelburg was arrested by members of the Hawks Commercial Crime Investigation on Thursday, February 16. He is facing 17 charges of theft.

It is alleged that the accused received money from the clients and deposited it into his trust account and embezzled it, at the value of R6 235 322.02.

The accused appeared before the Pretoria Commercial court and was granted R5000 bail and the case is postponed until Wednesday, March 29 for a plea.

Representing Snyman was her lawyer Mr Koos Harmse.
