It is final; Eskom is interrupting the bulk electricity supply to Emalahleni Local Municipality.
It seems that the municipality’s efforts to keep the lights on, just was not enough.
There bulk interruptions of electricity to Churchill -, KwaGuga-, Doornpoort – and Witbank DS/Municipal substations are starting on Thursday, February 16.
From Mondays to Fridays, the electricity will be disrupted from 06:0 0 to 08:00 and 17:00 to 19:30.
On Saturdays and Sundays there will be no electricity between 08:30 to 11:00 and 15:00 to 17:30.
Eskom warns that notwithstanding the above proposed indicative times for the interruption, the power house may, upon 15 calendar days’ notice, disconnect electricity entirely and indefinitely should the electricity debt situation not improve.
On January 19 the Minister of Bulk Enterprises, Ms Lynn Brown gave the municipality until January 31 to make arrangements for the payment of outstanding debt.
But the various initiatives to get consumers to settle their bills and even the selling of land can not keep the lights on.
