Robbers storm into Chicken Licken

“One stood at the door while another jumped over the counter and took the money from the till."

Four armed suspects ran off with the day’s takings after they robbed the Chicken Licken in Klipfontein.
The armed robbery took place on January 31 at about 21:00.

The four suspects approached the shop from the front entrance, one was armed with what seemed to be a rifle while the other three were armed with handguns.

“One stood at the door while another jumped over the counter and took the money from the till. By the time they got into the shop the staff had already run out the back door,” said Mr Adam Erwee, owner.

One of the staff members in the back office was asked by the suspects to open the safe, the suspects were told it was a drop safe and that she didn’t have the means to open it. The suspects then fled the scene in a white Renault.
Pathology visited the scene and was able to retrieve a number of prints.

“They got a good full hand print of the one that jumped the counter,” said Erwee.

Afriforum Neighbourhood Watch and Police arrived on scene shortly after the robbery.

The Chicken Licken in Klipfontein was robbed by four suspects.

“All shop owners should be more vigilant, at certain times, at night close the doors when its quiet, rather keep doors closed and open for clients than leaving the doors open. This will help reduce the risk of robbery,” said Mr Michael Visagie, Neighbourhood Watch Afriforum chairperson.

He added that another option would be to hire extra security in the evenings before closing time or to lock the front doors and only serve through the drive through section.
