Domestic Violence is no joke

Domestic violence is a serious issue and many organisations including the government run campaigns to raise awareness to the fact that this crime often goes unreported and downplayed.

It seems that even the perpetrators do not seem to realise the gravity of their crimes as was the case on January 22. A woman was at the police station, apparently filing a report that the father of her children had violated a court order she has against him. The suspect apparently marched into the police station and grabbed the court order from the victim while she was giving her statement to the police.

Witnesses recall that the man walked out and tore up the document as if it were a piece of scrap paper and not a legal binding document officially issued by the court.

The victim even tried to stop him from tearing it up and fell to the ground. The officer on duty however stepped in and arrested the suspect on the spot.

The law of domestic violence does not only apply to long standing relationships as going on a date with someone constitutes as a relationship. The police issued a very strong warning regarding violating court orders,

“If there is a domestic violence court order issued they will be arrested if they violate that order,” said Capt Eddie Hall firmly.
