No more roads left to repair

“I can no longer drive to my house with my car. This street has been getting worse and worse over the last year. I do not know what to do anymore,”

Potholes are a problem all over eMalahleni but for residents in Blanchville that live in this street there are no potholes, because there is no road left for potholes to develop. It has become a 4×4 track.

“I can no longer drive to my house with my car. This street has been getting worse and worse over the last year. I do not know what to do anymore,” said the resident who reported the problem to the WITBANK NEWS.

“This is by far the worst street in eMalahleni. I have reported this street many, many times,” added the resident.

The road needs to be entirely repaved.

“I am losing income, as I have a flat that I rent out and currently this is causing me to not get any tenants,” he concluded.

The road that has been degrading over the years.

With the raining season still underway the conditions on our roads have steadily gotten worse.

Mr. Theo van Vuuren, Municipal Manager stated that the municipality have a pothole-repair project in the pipeline.

“The recent rains have accelerated the deterioration of many of our roads. We will in this month start with a further three programmes costing us more than R10 million to address priority areas. Communities who want to assist especially on the smaller roads are welcome to approach me. We are willing to provide technical know how and materials in cases where the community want to repair potholes themselves. In this way we should be able to reach many more areas as the municipal teams are focusing on the main and collector roads,” he stated.
