On Christmas Day a daughter approached her mother with grievous news. She had allegedly been raped by her foster father.
The 14-year-old girl explained to her mother that over the past two years her foster father had been touching her and had raped her, he had told her not to tell anyone.
The following day the mother reported the incident to police, she had been contacted by the foster father who threatened to assault her.
No arrests have yet been made in regard to the alleged rape.
In another case a young girl, aged 15 had been sent out to get tomatoes along with her cousin. When the daughter returned home that day her mother asked her where her cousin was.
Attempts were made to get in touch with the girl but she did not answer her phone.
The girl only returned home that following day on January 4, she told her aunt that she had been forced to have sex with a man that was known to her.
“We are asking that children speak out against child abuse, whether it be domestic abuse, or rape. They must report it to someone they can trust, either their parents, a teacher at school or the police,” said Capt Eddie Hall, Witbank Police spokesperson.
According to Capt Hall blame should not be put on the child but should be reported so that the real culprits could be brought to the book.
