Threatened by knife wielding robbers

A night shift security guard was robbed of his personal belongings when four unknown robbers overpowered him and threatened him with a large knife.

Robbery at gun point is terrifying enough but one can only imagine being faced with the threat of a sharp edged blade being waved in your face by a robber.

For some people this week the “what if” became reality as two robbery cases with a knife were reported to the Witbank SAPS.

A night shift security guard was robbed of his personal belongings when four unknown robbers overpowered him and threatened him with a large knife. They apparently stole various valuable items from him and from the guard hut before escaping the scene.

This incident happened on November 25 at about 18:00 when he was patrolling the area.
Last week on November 21 a 26-year-old man was robbed downtown on the footbridge linking Old Coronation to the Central Business District (CBD). At about 19:00 the victim was walking home when four suspects allegedly approached him. Two men from the front and another two came up from behind him to prevent his escape.

They apparently grabbed the young man and threatened him with a knife and took his cell phone.

Robbery with a weapon other than a firearm is treated as a separate crime to common robbery (no weapon) and even to armed robbery.

According to Crimestatssa.co.za which aggregates annual crime statistics, robbery in general has been reported about 620 times this year just under last year’s total of 637 cases even though crime overall has decreased year after year.
