December is here and the festive season is in full swing but as people make their way to and from holiday destinations the roads are statistically more dangerous in December.

On Saturday morning November 27 at the break of dawn three vehicles were involved in a collision that took two lives. The incident occurred on the N4 highway just before Ferrobank off ramp.

According to Wild Card Towing who was on the scene, the white Volkwagen lost control and hit one of the cars from behind before ramping over the middle island into oncoming traffic and colliding head on with another vehicle. The car was pushed off the road into a ditch. The drivers from both vehicles who collided head on with each other died on the scene. However the driver of the third vehicle that was hit from behind was not injured.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control and what caused the accident but a case has been opened with the Vosman SAPS. The victims are Ray Habela, and Moses Jerome. Their next of kin could not be reached for comment before going to print.

According to the SAPS that run an annual campaign called operation festive season where they increase visual policing, actively enforce road blocks to deter the holiday crime wave, this includes drinking and driving to keep the roads safer for all travellers.

On Friday November 25 an accident also occurred on the N12 Watermeyer off ramp where the victims sustained serious injuries.
