Dr Danie van der Walt was not sentenced on November 10. Instead the case was postponed for March 13 and 14 to give his newly appointed legal representative advocate Mike Hellens SC to get on par with the case. The defense will also in this time apply for a correctional report and also a probation officer’s report.

In the other corner state prosecutor Francois Brand asked for a psychiatric report from Ms Buyiselwa Maditjane, who pursued this case after the death of her daughter Pamela Daweti in August 2005. The state also asked for an actuary report as well as a victim impact report.

On September 21 Magistrate Marlene Greyvenstein, found that Pamela died due to the negligence of Dr Van der Walt because he left her bleeding excessively for several hours after giving birth.

23-year old Pamela suffered cardiac arrest while in the Intensive Care Unit in Life Cosmos Hospital shortly after she gave birth to Lisakanya.
