No electricity at Desmond Tutu street in Vosman

No response was received from the municipality after a questionnaire was sent to them.

A section of the residential area in Vosman, Desmond Tutu Street is fuming due to the fact that they have been without electricity for the past two weeks.

Allegedly they have been without electricity from Saturday, October 15 and their pleas are only reaching deaf ears.
They also indicated that they informed their councillor Cllr Dorris Mthimkhulu who promised them that she was going to phone the municipality’s electricity department. According to the information received from their councilor she phoned the electrical department four times without any solution to their problems.

“Cllr Mthimkhulu also gave us her number and we phoned her to tell her that we were still without electricity the following day at about 16:00. Cllr Mthimkhulu was still busy fixing some electricity problems at a foreigner tuck shop a few metres from our street. She again told us that she has phoned the department while she was at the municipality’s offices with only empty promises. On Tuesday we were still without electricity and we phoned directly to the electricity department and we were told that they were aware of the problem and they will come and fix it,” said one of the affected residents.

The residents explained that they saw a municipality van in the street in the evening and the one official only isolated a falling electricity pole and went away without fixing their problem.

Another resident also indicated that she was not happy about the attitude of the officials who answered the phone twice and dropped the phone on her while she was still talking.

It is also said that the residents were without electricity on Thursday, October 20 at about 11:00.

“Some of us have babies to take care of, we are law abiding citizens of this country but some people receive better treatment than us. Our local government is failing us. The falling pole should have been fixed a long time ago, but it was left like that and we are without electricity as a result,” added the resident.
