Head on collision had passenger stuck

“This is the road to hell if you do not drive safely..."

A tragic accident left a driver stuck in her crumpled up vehicle.

On Monday, October 31 another freak accident happened on the R555 Old Middelburg Road. It was alleged that a truck was heading to Middelburg when a metallic brown Nissan Juke headed in the opposite direction towards eMalahleni, and overtook a motor vehicle.

The truck driver allegedly swerved out so that he did not connect with the Nissan but unfortunately went through a nearby security complex’s brick wall.

The driver of the Nissan then allegedly lost control of her vehicle and drifted into a ditch just next to the road.
The driver of the Nissan was badly injured as her legs were stuck in the wrecked vehicle. The truck driver did not sustain any injuries.

Ambulance services from all over eMalahleni attended the scene as they took on a team effort to get the injured woman safely out of her vehicle. The Jaws of Life were used to cut open the driver’s door as the badly injured driver groaned with every movement. She had injuries to her abdomen, pelvis area and to her legs.

She was rushed to Life Cosmos Hospital after she has been stabilized on the scene by Legacy Ambulance Service along with the truck driver.

The people that were involved in the accident could not be reached for comment before going to print.

“This is the road to hell if you do not drive safely. People do not know the dangers of driving badly on this unpredictable road,” said a bystander, Mr Hendry Greyling.
