The six accused were found guilty of Contravention of Mpumalanga Nature Conservation ACT no 10 of 1998 from section 53 to section 66 fishing without license, fishing with net and possession of most protected species (yellow fish).
They were sentenced at the magistrate court on Thursday, October 20.


Police counting the fish after 10 fishermen were arrested after being found to be fishing without licenses.

Alfred Dumisa Lubisi was found guilty and sentenced on count one and two for two years imprisonment, wholly suspended for a period of five years, on condition that accused person is not convicted of contravention of section 1,55 or 1,66 of act no 10/1998.

The five other accused, Moyana Jaros, Malayi Authur Barnet, Hlongwane Sabhawu, Elias Nkuna and Seabelo James were found guilty of section 149(1)(a) act 13 of 2002 and sentenced to a R2 000 fine or three months imprisonment.
The other four accused amongst the ten who were arrested on Friday, August 26 were not found guilty and were released.
