As the festive season is approaching the police are tightening screws to make sure the streets are safe. As a result Operation Thunderstorm took to the streets on Thursday, October 13. Different units joined forces for the arrests, concentrating on all crimes within the cluster; Station Commander Brig Delisiwe Motha was also present.

This operation saw officials from the provincial office also joining hands.
Law enforcers were on scene concentrating on eMalahleni laws that people need to abide by whilst the Department of Home Affairs were checking for illegal immigrants.

Arrests made include Play Time Café, a gambling store situated at Saveways Crescent being closed down after operating without a gambling certificate. Assistant spokesperson of Witbank Police Station, Sgt David Ratau said gambling stores will not be allowed to trade illegally. If business owners are caught more than once, a fine will be given there after an arrest will follow after the third warning.

Another arrest that was made was a business that closed due to selling alcohol without a liquor licence, drunk driving dockets were also opened as well as six stores being closed due to disobeying the liquor act which states that liquor stores can not be opened after 00:00.

“There will still be more operations that will come,” warned Sgt Ratau.

He said if one is not clear about the law and would like clarification, they can contact the police station on: 013 655 5000. “We will be more than willing to assist you,” said Sgt Ratau.
