Clifford Jonathan Melepe, one of 16 suspects in the SBV trial, is suspected to be dead.

Clifford Jonathan Melepe, one of 16 suspects in the SBV trial, is suspected to be dead.

On October 10 only 15 of the 16 accused appeared before the Middelburg High Court in the SBV trial.
Police and Hawks are still investigating the alleged murder of Malepe, which was said to have taken place in Gauteng.

“According to the investigating officer, there is a suspicion that Malepe may have been murdered by his co-accused as they started implicating one another,” said Lieut. Dineo Sekgotodi, Hawks spokesperson.

No further information regarding the matter was released.

14 of the 15 remaining suspects were granted an extension on their bail when the trial was postponed, and warned to be back in court on Wednesday October 12 for finalisation of the representatives.
Robert Clack will remain in custody as he has a pending case against him.

The 15 suspects are facing numerous charges against them including charges of conspiracy to commit a crime of robbery with aggravating circumstances, robbery with aggravating circumstances, four counts of kidnapping, four counts of attempted murder, and malicious damaged to property.

This after their alleged involvement in the SBV robbery that took place in April 2014 at the SBV holdings in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga, in which over R100-million was stolen from the reserves.
